Beards & Birds
This project was inspired by the Edward Lear poem 'There was an Old Man with a beard'. It seeks to explore the booming beard trend among men in the past ten years while rediscovering a connection to nature.
The final piece a hand-knitted jumper was presented in the final Foundation degree exhibition at Leeds College of Art in May 2016.
There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, "It is just as I feared!-
Two Owls and a Hen, four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard."
- Edward Lear
A photo of the final installation (including Graham Norton's head) was featured in an installation of 500 artworks of young creatives in the UK celebrating the The New Tate Modern Opening Weekend 17-19 June 2016. The installation consisted of an array of old TV screens displaying the work routinely, positioned in the turbine hall of the museum.
